NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) - The American Red Cross is helping Newport News residents who were affected by Saturday's storms, which brought widespread flooding throughout the city.
The local disaster response teams were activated following the storm and are working closely with the City to provide blankets, food, comfort kits and other hygiene supplies to residents who were affected by the storm, according to a press release from the organization.
Red Cross volunteers are coordinating with other agencies and faith-based groups to meet immediate disaster-related needs of those whose homes and personal belongings were severely damaged by Saturday's flooding, according to the release.
Residents who are in need of Red Cross assistance should call 757-536-9859.
