NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) - Police are investigating the disappearance of a Newport News man as a possible abduction after the man's truck was the center of a police chase and shootout in Georgia Friday.

Tommy Alley, 73, of Newport News left his home in his black pickup truck Feb. 21 and never returned, according to his son Charles Alley.

WAVY.com first brought you this story Wednesday when Hampton police announced two people accused of shoplifting at a Home Depot drove away in Tommy Alley's truck Feb. 17, four days before Alley's disappearance.

Police identified the suspects as Darren Johnson, 45, and Wanda Dobbins, 42, the same people Georgia police say were arrested for involvement in Friday's chase.

Georgia police say Dobbins jumped out of the vehicle during the chase and Johnson shot at police when the truck was cornered by authorities.

Charles Alley says his father was friends, and possibly had a romantic relationship, with Dobbins.

Alley says he suspects Dobbins knows something about his father's disappearance. He fears his father may not be alive.

Police searched the home Alley and his father shared Friday.

Newport News police say they only took a small amount of marijuana from the home. Other items were investigated, but not removed from the home.

A search warrant shows police are investigating an abduction and robbery related to Tommy Alley's disappearance.

Charles Alley says police recovered his father's cell phone Saturday night in Hampton. Alley says a man called him from the phone trying to return it.

The one thing still missing - his dad.
