NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) - Police say an 11-year-old girl who was reported missing Tuesday morning has been found safe.

According to Holly McPherson with the Newport News Police Department, Destiny Dominique Wilkinson was reported missing shortly before 9 a.m. by her adoptive parents and had not been seen since 10 p.m. Monday evening.

Wilkinson was located at a Walgreens on the corner of Denbigh Boulevard and Warwick Boulevard at approximately 9 p.m., according to McPherson. A citizen had spotted the child and contacted police.

Police said Wilkinson may have been trying to run away to Albany, NY where she has recently made contact with her biological family.
