NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) - A man was killed outside of a Newport News convenience store in a drive-by shooting Tuesday afternoon.
Officers were called out to 19th Street and Buxton Avenue at 2:45 p.m. and arrived to find the victim, 48-year-old Everette Harrison of Hampton dead at the scene.
Harrison was found just outside of White's Grocery.
According to Harold Eley with the Newport News Police Department, witnesses on the scene said they heard multiple gunshots and then saw a "gunmetal blue in color" sedan speed away from the scene.
Eley says Harrison is believed not to be the intended target.
"He's a nice person, I am so sorry that someone killed him like that, because he tried hard to stay out of trouble," said Harrison's cousin, Gloria Majette.
The investigation remains ongoing. If you have any information on the incident, contact Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
