Construction worker killed on the job

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Newport News police are investigating a death at a construction site.

According to police spokesperson Holly McPherson, a worker was run over by heavy equipment just before 11 a.m. Thursday, at a new home construction site in the 200 block of Eastwood Drive.

The victim, identified as 34-year-old Kirk Patrick Giezey or Hampton, died at the scene.

The investigation revealed Giezey was riding in the scoop portion of a front end loader, while another worker was driving it. Police say, at some point, the front end loader ran over him.
