NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) - Officials say an afternoon house fire in Newport News caused an estimated $10,000 in damage.
According to Chief J. Douglas Carper with the Newport News Fire Department, crews were dispatched to a home in the 3300 block of Williams Street shortly before 1 p.m. Monday.
Carper says crews saw light smoke showing from the home. He says the cause of the fire was determined to be "combustibles too close to the clothes dryer."
There were no casualties reported and the fire was under control at 1:05 p.m., according to Carper.
