NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) - A kitchen fire originating from unattended food left on a stove caused minor damage to a Newport News apartment Tuesday.
According to Deputy Fire Chief Kenneth Lay with the Newport News Fire Department, personnel responded to a fire on the 400 block of Savage Drive Monday, Sept. 17 at 4:42 p.m.
Lay says smoke damaged the apartment and kitchen and the Red Cross was called to assist the 8-person family.
