NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (AP) - Former Del. Phil Hamilton and his wife, Kimberly, filed for Chapter 13 bankruptcy protection.
The Hamiltons originally filed for Chapter 13 protection in February, but the case was dismissed after the couple missed a deadline for filing a revised plan.
Phil Hamilton was convicted in May of charges that he solicited a job as director of a teacher training center that he helped create with taxpayer money.
Hamilton was sentenced on Aug. 12 to 9 1/2 years in federal prison.
