NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) - The cause of a residential fire in Newport News that left the interiors of a home heavily damaged is still under investigation.
According to Deputy Fire Chief Kenneth Lay with the Newport News Fire Department, crews responded to the zero-hundred block of Raleigh Road Monday afternoon at 1:15 p.m. Crews found smoke coming from the back of the home, roof and cellar door.
Neighbors say the home owners, along with their family pet, were away during the time of the fire.
Lay says the cause of the fire has bot been determined and damage is estimated at approximately $150,000.
