NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) - Police in Newport News are looking for a man accused of abusing his son.

Telly Lanette Swain is facing charges of child neglect and malicious wounding.

The boy's mother, Felicia Everett Hoggard, was taken into custody on Feb. 2 and charged with three felony counts of child neglect.

School officials called police on Jan. 23 after they noticed cuts to the 6-year-old boy's face. Police would not discuss the extent of the child's injuries, but one Special Victims Unit detective said they were the worst he's seen.

Police think Swain may have left the family's home in the 600 block of 32nd Street after hearing about the investigation.

The child is now with a family friend.

If you have seen Telly Lanette Swain, call the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
