NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) - Two school buses were involved in a crash in front of Jenkins Elementary School in Newport News Wednesday afternoon.

According to police spokeswoman Holly McPherson, one bus rear-ended the other on Menchville Road during dismissal, around 12:45 p.m.

The buses were loaded, with a total of 94 passengers on board, and were about to leave from the school's bus lane when the accident happened.

42 of the passengers claimed to have injuries. The school nurse examined the children and determined their injuries consisted of bumps and bruises. None of the children were transported to hospitals.

According to school spokeswoman Michelle Price, the students on the buses were in kindergarten through fifth grade.

A phone message went out to all families to notify them about the incident and potential bus delays. The families of the injured students received personal phone calls, Price said.

No charges are pending, police said.
