Help needed to ID body found in NN

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) - Newport News Police are asking for the public's help in identifying a man whose body was found at Peterson's Yacht Basin on 16th Street on Sept. 29.

Around 1:05 p.m. Sept. 29, officers responded to Peterson's Yacht Basin for a report of a body that was found next to a marshy area.

The Newport News Fire Department's Marine Incident Response Team responded to the scene and recovered a man's body, according to a press release from Newport News Police.

Police say there were no visible signs of foul play.

Investigators are asking for the public's assistance to identify the man, who is described as being a black male in his 40s or 50s, is 5 feet 8 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall with a slender build and a mustache.

He was found wearing a a yellow Nike shirt and black pants with a gold belt. He was not wearing shoes, according to police.
