NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) - A Newport News woman says she returned from her honeymoon to find many items from her apartment stolen following a torrential downpour that flooded many homes and resulted in evacuations of some apartment buildings.
Rachel Gerado was in the Bahamas while her home at Kings Towne Apartments was flooded during severe weather in August. Gerado says when she got back here to her apartment, she found her carpets soaked and some of her furniture rearranged.
The next morning, Gerado says she realized a lot of her belongings, including computers, video games and other electronics were gone.
Gerado says she contacted police who told her the maintenance man at the complex left her door open for several hours after the flood, to let the apartment air out. Gerado believes that is when somebody came into her place and took her belongings.
