NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) - The owner of Best Transmission in Newport News says a gas tank exploded Tuesday morning, resulting in a fire.
WAVY.com spoke with the shop's owner, Mike Webb, who said he was removing a gas tank from an SUV at the shop located off Jefferson Avenue near Bellwood Road.
"I was taking the gas tank down and it fell and broke a bulb and exploded," Webb said.
Webb said the gas tank slipped off the jack. His hair was singed, but other than that he said he was not hurt. The building is “salvageable," according to Webb.
Webb is hoping his insurance will cover the repair costs at his fire damaged shop.
