NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) - Police arrested a man who they said robbed a credit union near the Newmarket South Shopping Center on February 13.

Newport News Police Department spokesman Lou Thurston said a man entered the Bayport Federal Credit Union in the 8000 block of Marshall Avenue at 5:18 p.m. He passed a note to the teller indicating he had a weapon and demanded cash. The clerk handed over money, and the man fled on foot towards the Hardees restaurant.

Officers arrested 29-year-old Gideon Robell Kambae of the first block of Davenport Court in Hampton on Thursday. Police charged him with one count of robbery.

Thurston said detectives made the arrest from a Crime Line tip and an on-going investigation.

Kambae remains in the custody in the Newport News City Jail without bond.
