CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) - WAVY.com has uncovered new information about Daniel Robinson, the Currituck County man charged with having weapons of mass destruction.

On March 11, deputies arrested Robinson and his brother Timothy on drug charges. Daniel was also charged with having bomb making materials.

WAVY.com has learned Daniel Robinson spent five years, from 1994 to 1999, in the Navy as an Electrician's Mate Fireman Recruit assigned to the USS Theodore Roosevelt. He spent at least one year in nuclear power training. Decorations included a National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal and Armed Forces Service Medal.

Curtis EADS flight school owner Tom Stevens said Robinson began flying lessons in October of 2007 and seemed like a nice guy.

"He only came in for a few lessons, three or four lessons total, a few weeks apart, and then he just stopped," said Stevens.

Stevens said Robinson passed all the checks necessary: he had a valid id and was US citizen. Stevens said he is trained by TSA to detect warning signs, but that Robinson did not display any.

"At the level he was at when he left here I don't think he was trained enough to get the airplane in the air," said Stevens.
