NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - The company in charge of adding a new Midtown Tunnel, connecting Norfolk and Portsmouth, says work is scheduled to begin in October.
Elizabeth River Crossings presented an update on the project to Norfolk City Council Tuesday night.
Report: The Elizabeth River Tunnels Project Update
The ERC construction director said the massive project is now expected to be complete in September 2016.
If you take the tunnel, you will notice detour routes going up next month.
Tolls at both the Midtown Tunnel and Downtown Tunnel have been pushed back until February 2014. A group of residents fighting the tolls filed a lawsuit against VDOT and the Elizabeth River Crossings in July.
