HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) - The news hit Thomas Jones like the bullet that hit his son.

"I don't know what's what," said Jones. "I just don't know."

Police say Jones' son, Travis Lamont Jones, 21, died from a gunshot wound to the torso Monday night in the 5200 block of West Mercury Boulevard.  Police say the suspects dumped his body in a parking lot.

"Why why why would you do a young man like that," repeated Thomas Jones.

Kiani Jones, Travis Jones' cousin, told WAVY.com Jones was, "...a good guy, a sweet boy, very quiet." She said she doesn't know "who would do something like this and [doesn't] know why."

Corporal Paula Scheck said someone called police around 8:30 p.m. to report what appeared to be "people pulling a person from a car, and dumping a body."

Scheck said when police and paramedics arrived they found a man with a gunshot wound to his upper torso. He died about an hour later at a hospital.

According to Scheck, a witness saw a woman, who was the driver, and a man, drag the victim out of the back seat of the car. Scheck said the car is believed to be a four-door silver Nissan Altima. A license plate number was not available.

Scheck said investigators did not find evidence to suggest the shooting took place in the parking lot, which backs up to Kennedy Drive. However, the Hampton Police Department K-9 Unit was at the scene to help with the case.

Police say the driver of the vehicle has been described as a black female in her 20s who was last seen wearing orange capri pants. The front seat passenger has been described as a black male who appeared to be in his late teens.

This case remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
