Man sentenced to 73 years in prison

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - A man was sentenced Friday to 73 years in prison with 15 years suspended for first degree murder, malicious wounding, robbery and use of a firearm in commission of a felony, according to the U.S. Attorney's office.

Curtis Wayne Newby, 20, pleaded guilty to the charges of beating a man to death and wounding two other men in East Ocean View in July 2007.

The total of Newby's convictions is:

  • One count of first degree murder
  • two counts of malicious wounding
  • three counts of robbery
  • three counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony
