CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) - A Chesapeake father charged with involuntary manslaughter in connection with his 9-month-old daughter's death had an arraignment Monday morning.
Colton Jack Luman was charged following the shooting death of 9-month old Makenna Luman on Sunday, February 21.
Chesapeake Police were called to the 800 block of Warbler around 10:15 a.m.. The baby girl had been shot, according to police spokesperson Dorienne Boykin. Mckenna Luman later died.
Boykin said both parents were questioned and released Sunday.
Since then, Commonwealth's Attorney Nancy Parr told WAVY.com Chesapeake Police have been consulting with and reviewing evidence with the Commonwealth's Attorney's office.
According to Parr, the involuntary manslaughter charge was the result of an unlawful discharge of a firearm.
The Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) is also investigating the case.
Luman bonded has since bonded out of jail. A preliminary hearing is set for April 27.
