YORKTOWN, Va. (WAVY) - Deputies in Yorktown responded to a domestic dispute in the 100 block of Nathan Place, followed by a man killing himself nearby.

On August 30 at 10:09 a.m., deputies responded to the domestic dispute. At about 10:30 a.m., a utility trailer was seen on fire at the entrance of the subdivision near Nathan Place, according to a news release from the York County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies and firefighters approached the burning trailer and the white Ford Explorer which had been towing it.

The driver of the vehicle had apparently set the trailer on fire and refused to exit the vehicle, deputies said.

A fire department officer noticed a cable attached to a nearby tree and wrapped around the neck of the driver.

Upon attempting to get the driver to exit the vehicle, deputies said he accelerated the vehicle.

The driver, a 46-year-old man who had most recently been living in Chicago, was pulled from the vehicle and was decapitated.

The vehicle came to rest about 150 yards further down Holmes Boulevard.

Shortly afterwards, it was determined that the deceased was the same person involved in the earlier domestic dispute.
