Man convicted in VB robberies

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - The man police say robbed and shot a Virginia Beach gas station clerk has been convicted.

19-year-old Raymond Lewis Perry, of Norfolk was convicted on eight counts related to a string of robberies in Virginia Beach and North Carolina.

The robberies which spanned a two week period in September 2010 included two Family Foods stores in North Carolina, a 7-11 in Virginia Beach, Sal's Pizza on Independence Boulevard in Virginia Beach and a Luk Oil gas station on Green Meadows Drive in Virginia Beach.

In the last incident, police say Perry and two other suspects entered the gas station and a demanded money from the clerk.

The gunman then shot the clerk and stole his wallet.

The clerk who was shot survived his wounds.

Perry was charged with one count of conspiracy to interfere with commerce by means of robbery, three counts interference with commerce by means of robbery, and four counts of using a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence.

He faces a maximum penalty of life in prison and a mandatory minimum of 80 years in prison.
