VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Virginia Beach police have arrested and charged a man with driving drunk after he allegedly failed to yield to an officer traveling on Shore Drive.

Public Information Officer Adam Bernstein tells WAVY.com officers arrested 22-year-old Robert Kitt of Virginia Beach after he allegedly hit a police cruiser traveling on Shore Drive.

Officer Christopher Newbould was hit while on his way to a call.

Bernstein says guns don't make the job dangerous, it gets dangerous when an officer enters traffic with their lights and sirens on.

Officer Newbould is recovering from serious injuries he suffered in the crash.

Kitt has been charged with DUI and Failure to Yield an Emergency Vehicle.

He's since been released on a $1,500 bond.
