CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) - A 47-year-old man from Vienna, Va. led police through Virginia and North Carolina on a high speed chase Saturday morning that reached speeds of 90 mph before he was caught by Chesapeake police.
Around 8:12 a.m. the Currituck County Sheriff's office received reports of a drunk driver. A deputy spotted the suspected vehicle about 10 minutes later and attempted to stop the car, but the vehicle fled and headed northbound towards Chesapeake on the Route 168 bypass.
The pursuit reached speeds of 90 mph, according to a Sheriff's Department spokeswoman.
During the chase, the suspect's vehicle hit another car and caused it to overturn. The driver of the overturned vehicle was unharmed in the crash, according to a spokesman from the Chesapeake Police Department.
Chesapeake police used a spike strip to blow out the tires on the suspect's vehicle and he was eventually caught on I-464.
Alan Drewery, 47, of Vienna, Va. faces charges of felony eluding police and possibly DUI in Chesapeake, according to a police spokesman. He also faces the possibility of extradition to Currituck County where he could face more charges.
