VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - The reopening of the Lynnhaven Fishing Pier in Virginia Beach has been pushed back due to some unforseen delays with the contractor, according to a message on the Fishing Pier's answering machine.
The November Nor'easter in 2009 shattered part of the pier.
The pier was supposed to reopen before the first of the season, but is now scheduled to reopen May 27.
The phone message states delays in the permitting process and delays with the contractor pushed back the opening date.
The Nor'easter was just the latest blow. Six years ago, Hurricane Isabel removed several hundred feet from the end of the pier, which was rebuilt.
