YORKTOWN,Va - Orange barrels line the battlefield as Yorktown prepares to celebrate the red, white and blue. Thousands come to see fireworks every July fourth on the historic site, but on Main Street, the parade was canceled.
The county says there's not enough money to host the show. VFW post 824 decided to do something about it.
Ski Milewski is a decorated Vietnam Veteran who spent 32 years in the United States Navy and his whole family is active in the local VFW.
His son Venner was so disappointed by the cancellation he asked his parents, "What can we do?...and we thought of why not walking with the flag," Venner said.
A simple honor guard, made up of just three veterans, walking the parade route. "Three people carrying a flag doesn't cost anything and in my heart I believe it costs a lot if you stop doing these things," said Robin Milewski.
It's not a protest or demonstration. They don't want to fight anymore. This is about past battles, ones that have given us liberty and the freedom to fly a flag or march it down main street on any given day
and especially on the fourth of July.
