YORK COUNTY, Va. - A woman pulled from a burning home in York County Wednesday morning has died, fire officials told WAVY.com.
The fire broke out at a house in the 100 block of Yorkshire Drive at 8:15 a.m.
A Dominion Virginia Power meter reader noticed the smoke and reported the fire. Units arrived five minutes later and discovered heavy smoke coming from the second floor and roof. Firefighters entered the home and found a woman unresponsive on the second floor.
Captain Paul Long said the woman, identified as 46-year-old Sandra Lyn Dudley, was taken to Riverside Regional Medical Center where she died shortly after arrival.
"Personnel found a victim on the second floor. The victim was removed, the female victim, unresponsive at the time of removal. Patient care began on scene," said Captain Paul Long of the York County Fire Department.
The Norfolk Medical Examiners Office will determine the cause of death.
A neighbor told WAVY.com the heavy smoke was a scary sight, "I heard trucks running out the front of my house, so I opened the front door and saw all the fire trucks and ambulances. So I looked down the street and saw smoke coming out of a neighbor's house upstairs."
Investigators say the cause of the fire was electrical in nature and started in a second floor bedroom.
