WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - Williamsburg police are looking into a possible crime spree in the Colonial Capital. Two incidents were reported in a supermarket parking lot, and another on the campus of the College of William & Mary.
Bloom shopper Sean Maloney told WAVY.com, "Shocking, shocking. I'm shocked that did happen." Maloney was surprised because he thinks Williamsburg is safer than that. However, since Friday there have been three incidents.
At 9:22 p.m. Friday a female student at the College of William & Mary was robbed as she walked near Yates and Gooch Drives. She told police six men approached her wearing black hoodies with their heads covered, and they were wearing black sweatshirts.
Lorelei Thompson is a resident advisor and got the campus-wide alert warning of the attack. "She was approached by six men, and probably not students. It's hard to believe anyone who goes to school here would do this," Thompson said.
Ninety minutes after the College incident, another attack occurred at the Bloom parking lot on Richmond Road. At 11:45 p.m. a woman was leaving her car when she was abducted at knifepoint.
"They forced her back into her car then drove her to the other side of town. They forced her out and took the car which we later recovered," said Williamsburg Deputy Chief David Sloggie.
Then Saturday night at 10 p.m. in the same Bloom parking lot a woman was sitting in her car while her husband was inside shopping. She suddenly saw a man outside the car window trying to open the car door, which was locked.
"She did the right thing and had the door locked. When the man realized he wasn't getting into the car easily, he got into a dark colored van and left," Sloggie says.
Sara Meyer shops at Bloom and she told WAVY.com she's not that concerned. "I never shop at night, but I really never think about being attacked in this parking lot because it always seems safe. I'm very surprised to hear about this."
Deputy Chief Sloggie said, "My concern is we had these two incidents. I'm not sure they're related because they all three happened in different ways. As for the Bloom incidents, we are investigating them and watching them closely."
