A traffic stop in Virginia Beach ended in a deadly crash just before 2 a.m. Saturday morning.

Police say the driver, Reginald Butler, crashed into a yard on Chilhowie Circle near the intersection of Indian River Road and Lynnhaven Parkway.

Officials say an officer clocked Butler at more than 100 miles an hour on radar. Police say Butler refused to pull over when officers attempted to make a traffic stop.

Investigators say Butler took out a fire hydrant then flipped his car. The 34-year-old was thrown from the vehicle and died. The crash was so violent, wreckage scattered in several nearby yards.

Police say Butler was not wearing a seatbelt.
