VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - The suspect accused of dragging a Virginia Beach police officer with his car Tuesday has been arrested.
A police spokesperson says the suspect, identified as Christopher Dennis, his wife and son were located at a Greyhound station in Norfolk at around 10 p.m. Tuesday. Dennis and his family were scheduled to depart for Richmond before he was taken into custody.
Police say the officer who was dragged was conducting a traffic stop in a parking lot in the 4700 block of Euclid Road. The officer approached the driver and asked him to step out of the car. At that time, the driver started to drive away. When the officer tried to stop him, investigators say the suspect grabbed the officer's arm and held on to him, dragging him with his car. The officer managed to break free after he was dragged several feet.
The officer was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Dennis has been charged with Felony Assault of a Law Enforcement Officer, Resisting Arrest, and Reckless Driving. Felony Child Endangerment charges were also secured against the suspect because at the time he dragged the officer with his car and fled the scene, his wife and child were in the car with him. The suspect was also served with four warrants already on file for Attempted Grand Larceny, Grand Larceny, and two counts of Conspiracy to Commit Larceny.
Dennis is being held at the Virginia Beach Correctional Facility without bond.
