Deadly accident on Route 35

Virginia State Police are investigating a morning accident that took the life of a 73-year-old Courtland man.

The crash happened along Rt. 35 in Southampton County at about 8 a.m. Monday.

The driver of the 1998 GMC truck, Thomas Jackson Edmonds, ran off the road and struck a tree, according to police.

Edmonds was airlifted to Medical College of Virginia in Richmond where he was pronounced dead at 10:15 a.m.

Police say no one else was injured in the wreck.
