Carrollton ES to reopen Tuesday

Isle of Wight - Carrollton Elementary School in Isle of Wight County is expected to reopen Tuesday, October 6 after closing Monday due to a malfunctioning air-conditioning and heating system, according to a school spokesperson.

The decision to close Monday was made by Isle of Wight Superintendent Dr. Michael McPherson. Dr. McPherson said, "The school would not have been able to generate adequate air circulation.... With the threat of flu viruses already being spread in the community, we felt this was the safest course of action for our students and staff."

Katherine Goff, Public Information Officer for Isle of Wight Public Schools, says a portable HVAC system is being put in place to provide air conditioning and heating until the existing system can be repaired.
