PORTSMOUTH, Va. - Portsmouth Fire crews responded to a multi-apartment fire at around 5 p.m. on Wednesday.
The fire broke out on Emmons Place. Portsmouth Fire spokesperson Cpt. Paul Hoyle tells WAVY.com the fire involved multiple apartments and one person was injured and taken to Maryview Hospital where she is listed in critical condition.
Cpt. Hoyle says three people tried to rescue the woman from the front of the home, but the flames were too strong. Instead they went to the back of the house where they found the woman near a door. They brought her to the front of the home and paramedics began treatment.
