NORFOLK, Va. - Norfolk State University President Dr. Carolyn Meyers is a finalist for a position in Baltimore.

A search committee at Morgan State University narrowed down its list to three candidates out of more than 100 applicants. Morgan State says it will decide on a new president no later than December 15th.

Dr. Carolyn Meyers is in her fourth year as President of Norfolk State University. The Newport News native took over in 2006. She previously worked at North Carolina A and T University.

"It's bitter sweet if she goes we're going to lose a President, but it's going to give her that extra position that she might want," said Junior Mariana Martich.

Just 3 weeks ago, Dr. Meyers and 2 others were excused from a Board of Visitors meeting in the President's Conference Room.

According to minutes obtained by 10 On Your Side, Dr. Meyers was asked to come back in at 7:15 pm, nearly 7 hours later. Though the meeting had been disrupted at about 2:40 pm, when according to the minutes, a member of the board became ill.

Board of Visitors Rector, Edward Hamm Jr. told 10 On Your Side, "The closed session was to talk about a personnel matter and some audits that were legal issues." He would not comment on the type of audit or whether or not Dr. Meyers was being investigated.

When asked if it was unusual that she'd look for another president's job 4 years in, he said, perhaps she was "sought out."

One student said she wouldn't mind a new President.

"I'd want a different one just to see if things would change, I mean there aint nothing wrong with change," said Leeana Cordero.

10 On Your Side reached out to every member of the Board of Visitors. All deferred their comments to Hamm. 10 On Your Side also reached out to Morgan State University. Our calls were not returned.
