NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Newport News Public Schools:
The Peninsula Health District of Virginia has announced it is canceling all after school H1N1 vaccination clinics that were tentatively scheduled for next week.
"The vaccine supply coming to us at the health department is determining the scheduling of all vaccine clinics," said health director Dr. David Trump in a news release.
According to the release, the after school vaccine clinics scheduled for Friday evening WILL be held:
As soon as they receive enough of the vaccine they'll resume the after school clinics, according to the release. The after school clinics have been extremely successful in making the H1N1
vaccine readily available to families with school-aged and pre-school-aged children, said Dr. Trump. "At the five After School Clinics we have held so far this week, we have been able to vaccinate over 1,000 people in a 4-hour period."
In-school vaccine clinics also will be postponed until more of the vaccine becomes available.
For information about local availability of the H1N1 flu vaccine, please call the Peninsula Health Center at (757) 594-7069 during normal working hours.
Pregnant women and persons living with chronic health conditions, including children and adults up to age 64 years, may wish to contact their physician to check on vaccine availability. Several pediatric and medical practices in the community have received or will receive small quantities of the H1N1 flu vaccine.
