NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Each year, in communities all across the Unites States and Canada, families, friends, neighbors and teams from local businesses and national companies come together for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Light the Night Walk events. The events are meant to bring help and hope to people battling blood cancers.
On Saturday, Chopper 10 was there to help turn the night into light in Newport News. Hundreds participated in this year's walk which began at City Center in Oyster Point.
Walkers carried illuminated balloons; white ones for survivors, red ones for supporters and gold ones in memory of loved ones lost to cancer. The walkers form a community of caring and help bring light to the dark world of cancer.
Monies raised by the walkers provide financial assistance to help cover patient expenses, educational materials, local programs, as well as help fund lifesaving blood cancer research.
If you missed the walk in Newport News, you can walk in next month's walk on November 7th in Virginia Beach.
Watch raw video of this year's walk shot by Chopper 10 posted in the video player to the left of this story.
