One person is dead and three others are in the hospital after a two car accident in the Pungo section of Virginia Beach.
Virginia Beach Police say the accident happened in the 2300 block of Indian River Road at 6:47 p.m. Monday.
Rescue crews arrived to find four people involved in the crash. One of the victims was pronounced dead at the scene. She was identified Tuesday as Grace Suzanne McIntyre, 18, of the 2500 block of Sandusky Avenue in Virginia Beach.
The remaining three, a man, his wife, and their teenage daughter, all in the second vehicle, received non-life threatening injuries and were transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Fatal Crash Team investigators say McIntyre, driving a 2006 Toyota Scion, was traveling westbound in the 2300 block of Indian River Road at a high rate of speed when she entered a sharp curve. Officials say she was traveling too fast to negotiate the curve safely in her lane and entered into the opposite lane of travel. She overcorrected and exited the roadway to her right. She then overcorrected again and entered into oncoming traffic, striking a Honda Odyssey head-on.
Alcohol use is not a factor in the crash.
The investigation is still ongoing.
