NORFOLK, VA - As part of a disaster plan implemented by the City of Norfolk, residents will not have to call in a bulk pickup through Monday, December 14.

Residents should place waste at the curb for regularly scheduled pick up by the city or take any debris to the citizen drop-off centers listed below from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. through Sunday, November 22:

  • The Virginia Zoo parking lot (3500 Granby Street) in the back
  • Tarrallton Park (2100 Tarrallton Drive) - north side of park
  • Powhatan Field Parking lot – behind ODU on Powhatan Avenue between 43rd and 49th streets

Two more citizen drop-off centers will be open from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. through November 29, including Thanksgiving Day:

  • Community Beach Parking lot 100 West Ocean View, across from the Senior Center at Norfolk Ave.
  • East Ocean View Avenue and Shore Drive, 4110 E. Ocean View Avenue on the east side of Ships Cabin Restaurant.

Residents should place the waste into four separate piles:

  • Household garbage
  • Building debris and related material
  • Leaves and grass clippings (to be stored in clear bags)
  • Tree limbs (for limbs longer than 4 feet and 6 inches in diameter, please tie and bundle.)

No hazardous waste is permitted at these sites nor should hazardous waste be placed at curbside for disposal. Please bring hazardous waste to VA Beach Landfill, 1991 Jake Sears in VA Beach.  Hours are Monday through Saturday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

For further information call the Division of Waste Management at 441-5813.
