The Gloucester County Sheriff's Office is investigating an armed robbery that occurred at a Dollar General Store in the 2300 block of George Washington Memorial Highway.
The store, located in the Hayes Plaza Shopping Center, was robbed just before 6 p.m. According to witnesses, a white male, approximately 5" 9' to 5" 11', weighing between 190 and 220 lbs walked into the store.
The suspect was seen wearing blue jeans, a white T-shirt and a dark blue or black hooded sweatshirt.
Witnesses said the man walked in front of the store then used something to cover the lower part of his face before walking inside. He had a sawed off shotgun and demanded money from the store employee.
Police tell WAVY.com the suspect left the store heading south. He was possibly going towards the Hayes Road area.
Some witnesses mentioned the possibility of a small 4-door white car around Dunston Drive at the time of the robbery.
No one was injured. The suspect got away with an undisclosed amount of cash.
