KILL DEVIL HILLS, N.C. (WAVY) - The Dare County Sheriff’s Office is searching for a suspect responsible for shooting at a Kill Devil Hills business along Colington Road.
Chief Deputy Steve Hoggard with the Dare County Sheriff’s Office said an unknown person shot at T.J.’s Gas and Grill located at 2197 Colington Road. No one was injured and the shooting occurred when the store was closed.
K-9 units were searching for the suspect early Friday morning, prompting a road closure for Colington Road. Sheriff Doug Doughtie asked residents in the area to stay inside their homes. Parents were asked to not send their children to the bus stop or to allow them to ride their bicycles to school.
School bus routes in the Colington Modular and Collington Harbour communities were halted as officers searched for the shooter. They resumed at 7:45 a.m. as Colington Road reopened, Hoggard said.
Deputies are still searching for the shooter and several emergency crews were on the roads. Drivers are asked to use extreme caution in the area.
