NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - A federal jury continued deliberations Thursday in the retrial of two former Blackwater contractors charged with murder in the deaths of two unarmed Afghan civilians.
Justin H. Cannon of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Christopher Drotleff of Virginia Beach face federal murder, assault and weapons charges that could send them to prison for life.
Prosecutors contend the men shot at a vehicle in Kabul out of frustration and anger. Defense attorneys maintain they shot in self defense. Neither man testified in court.
Their first trial ended in September with a hung jury.
The jury deliberated Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with a ten minute break, because the deliberation room was hot and stuffy.
The jury will continue their deliberations on Friday.
