VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - Virginia Beach's only indoor skate park closed its doors for good Sunday.
Skate High opened just two years ago but now has to close because the owners say they cannot afford to install a new smoke detector unit the park needs to bring it in line with city codes.
Local skaters like Joseph Provido are upset about losing the only indoor skate park in the city.
"There's really no where else around to skate in the winter time," said Provido. "There's a little place in Norfolk, [but] for Virginia Beach this is like the public indoor place in the winter time."
The owners of the park say it would cost close to $10,000 to make the improvements needed for the building to pass the city inspections.
