WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (WAVY) - WAVY.com started Monday morning in the Port Anne neighborhood in Williamsburg. The area is an example of the secondary road concerns that forced school administrators to call for a two hour delay.
We found the snow is melting, but the water from that snow is pouring across the roads causing sheets of ice that are dangerous for buses to drive over or children to walk on.
A few miles away, on Quarter Path Road off of Route 191, a couple of roads are actually closed because of icing and a snow build up.
As WAVY.com headed toward the Colonial Parkway we found that slushy mix of snow and ice along the sides of the roads. It creates dangerous conditions for drivers if your tires get caught up in the mess.
In Newport News and Hampton, our crews found the main roads appear wet in some places with random icy patches. Secondary roads appear to be clearing up fairly well, but again, there are patches of ice.
On the southside, most roads mainly appear dry, but it's important that you don't get a false sense of security. Run off from melting snow could freeze in some areas creating ice.
Take your time and be careful out there this morning.
