Pothole problems continue

HAMPTON ROADS, Va. (WAVY) - The weather isn't helping potholes stay repaired, particularly on Interstate 264.

Cheryl Davidson is a nurse who commutes daily to work from Virginia Beach to Portsmouth along I-264.

She said a pothole caused her to lose a hubcap along the way.

"Last Friday, I heard it fall. I looked up from behind. I was so afraid I was going to cause an accident," said Davidson. "It's knocked it out of line. I've had it aligned twice in six months, and I've replaced eight hubcaps - two in the last two weeks."

Davidson is buying cheaper hubcaps just in cases she loses another one on her 2005 Volkswagen Jetta.

"I've already bent a couple rims on my car, it's just that horrible," said Joel Andre, another driver.

He said the weather isn't helping.

"The freezing and the thawing process definitely affects the patching process because the expansion and contraction doesn't allow the patches to take properly," said Andre.

Drivers won't have to wait much long er as improvements are on the way.

VDOT has construction plans to remedy the problem beginning in April. VDOT said they will replace concrete on both sides of Interstate 264 between the Claiborne Avenue exit and the Broad Creek Bridge.

Pothole patching will also continue as part of regular maintenance.
