UNDATED, Va. (WAVY) - Special Olympic athletes here in Hampton Roads will be lacing up their shoes, hitting the pavement and carrying the "Flame of Hope" across Virginia Thursday.

The annual Torch Run signifies the start of the Special Olympics Virginia Summer Games, which will be held in Richmond.

The 1,900 mile trek is coordinated with the help of law enforcement across the Commonwealth.

The torch run over the James River Bridge, led by State police, will kick off at around 1:30 Thursday afternoon. Expect some delays in that area as the athletes in the run make their way across the bridge.
