CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) - The Memorial Day holiday is a good time to help others, by giving them the gift of life.
FOX 43-TV's annual blood drive is happening all weekend. Fox 43 News partnered with the American Red Cross, which says it is mostly in need of type 'O' blood right now.
There is an added incentive for those who donate this weekend. The Red Cross is giving a $5 gift card to everyone who donates. While that was a perk, those who showed up to donate said it was all about helping others. "It saves other people's lives. You know, it's important. People just don't understand the severity of it but it is very important."
The blood drive runs through Monday at Patrick Henry Mall, Greenbrier Mall and Chesapeake Square Mall.
