NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) - The Peninsula Health District is warning residents in the Bellwood Road area that a raccoon has tested positive for the rabies virus.
Lois Gary with the Peninsula Health District says anyone with direct exposure or pet exposure to his animal is asked to call the Health Department at 594-7340. Contact includes a bite, scratch or contact with saliva by open wound or eyes, nose and month.
The District also reminds citizens to vaccinate pets, report all bites and scratches from animals to your doctor and health department and to enjoy wildlife from a distance.
