Wet winter makes for slick roads

HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) - Another round of rain fell across Hampton Roads, turning streets into a slippery mess once again, even with the final reminders of snow still sitting in parking lots.

Barely 48 hours after the region dried out from the last dousing of winter rain, more precipitation has arrived, falling in steady sheets on the Peninsula.

Although the region missed the worst of the snowfall that hit the northern part of the Commonwealth, rain has already made a mess of the roadways. And drivers fear potholes created during the last two bouts of winter weather could get bigger and deeper.

Once again, the morning commute could be a messy one as the roads slowly dry out in what's become a winter of wet weather.

To report any potholes or roadway problems, call VDOT's Highway Helpline at 1-800-367-ROAD.
