HAMPTON,Va - The Hampton University basketball team played Tuesday night in honor of their missing captain.
Theo Smalling died last month after a tragic accidental shooting. Police say Dominique Smith mishandled a gun in a parking lot on W. Mercury Boulevard and shot his friend.
Students decided to honor the missing HU captain with t-shirts, decorated with Smalling's number 12 on the front and his name on the back.
Tuesday, the HU basketball captain was missing but certainly not forgotten.
In his honor, students collected $147 dollars for the Theo Smalling Foundation. The money will be used to further someones education in Smalling's name.
Unfortunately Iona defeated Hampton, 68 to 63.
