HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) - Crews with the Virginia Department of Transportation finished paving work on the eastbound lanes of the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel early Sunday reopened the lanes around 8:30 a.m.
No additional weekend closures were needed to complete the paving project and all lanes of the HRBT remained open to traffic Sunday night, according to a press release from VDOT. The bridge-tunnel was scheduled to have the eastbound lanes closed again Sunday at 9 p.m. and were to reopen at 4 a.m. Monday.
In September crews completed construction on one lane inside the eastbound tube of the tunnel and this weekend's work allowed crews to finish milling and paving the remaining travel lane inside the tunnel.
